Kristen Shearin
Kristen Shearin is an attorney, Certified Family Financial Mediator, and Certified Divorce Financial Analyst (CDFA®) known for helping clients navigate the financial complexities of divorce with clarity and confidence. Recently named the National Subject Matter Expert for the Institute for Divorce Financial Analysts (IDFA®), Kristen has built a national reputation for translating complicated financial issues into practical, understandable solutions.
Kristen works with clients across the financial spectrum — from financially sophisticated individuals to those who feel overwhelmed by marital finances. She has extensive experience handling cases involving complex compensation packages, stock options, partnerships, business interests, executive compensation, and other high-value or complicated assets. She helps clients understand not only what assets are worth, but also how those values impact negotiations, settlements, and long-term financial security.
In addition to her legal practice, Kristen serves as a national educator in the divorce financial field. She hosts the IDFA’s monthly continuing education webinar attended by more than 5,000 divorce professionals, records a monthly divorce podcast, and writes regular articles and blogs on divorce finance and mediation topics. Her insights have been featured by CNN, Barron’s, USA Today, and The Wall Street Journal podcast.
Kristen is deeply committed to client education and empowerment. She believes that financial transparency is the foundation of successful divorce resolution, and that once both parties fully understand the financial realities and implications of their decisions, settlement options often become much more straightforward.
Although she is an experienced litigator, Kristen strongly advocates for mediation and alternative dispute resolution. She successfully resolves 99% of her cases without litigation. Having served both as an attorney and as a mediator, she brings valuable courtroom experience, practical negotiation skills, and a balanced perspective to every case — helping clients achieve fair, efficient, and lasting outcomes with as little conflict as possible.
Outside of work, Kristen is married to an airline pilot, has two children in college, and loves spending time with her yellow lab, who accompanies her whenever possible.
“Kristen Shearin helped guide us through a collaborative and non-combative separation. We all came to the same table, collectively discussed how to care for our children’s future, and amicably separate the household. She was able to help us resolve any issues that arose during the process and ensured that we did not overlook any potential problems. She then prepared all of our necessary legal documents."
